Meet the Faces of Your Community

Therin Garrett -

MAYOR-ELECT

Term January 2026

Jenny and I are passionate about Mapleton! We've been involved in this community in many capacities. I have served on the Planning Commission (4 years); Director of CERT program (3 years); EMT/firefighter on the fire department; instrumental in developing city's Commercial Design Standards; voting member of ULCT's Legislative Policy Committee where I study State Legislative issues that directly affect cities in Utah. I've attended almost all Planning Commission and City Council meetings for the past 10 years. I've served as a city council member for one term now. Before being elected to the council I have had experience in fiscal budgeting, running a successful business, zoning and land issues, public safety, management, leadership and human resources. I have experience applying my qualifications to leading Mapleton. My voting record highlights protecting property rights, limiting government, all while aggressively limiting growth and inappropriate development. I am a moderate-conservative person who believes in limited government, but where government needs to be involved it should be by the voice of the people! I mention all this merely to illustrate that you won't find a candidate that is more committed to serving this community. I would greatly appreciate your vote!

Dallas Hakes -

MAYOR

Current Term 2022- 2025

Dallas Hakes has proudly served as Mayor of Mapleton since 2017, bringing steady leadership, deep community roots, and a results-driven approach to city government. A longtime resident and successful business owner, Dallas ran for office to preserve Mapleton's character while thoughtfully guiding its future. Under his leadership, the city has expanded parks and open space, improved infrastructure, and maintained a strong commitment to public safety.

Dallas believes in collaboration over confrontation. He's built strong relationships with local, regional, and state partners to secure resources and negotiate lasting benefits for the community—including more than 45 acres of new public open space, a 30-acre bike park, and water agreements to protect Mapleton's long-term needs.

Before entering public service, Dallas built and managed companies from the ground up. That experience—combined with his work ethic and ability to bring people together—shapes his approach as mayor: hands-on, strategic, and service-oriented.

He and his wife, Kara are raising their family in Mapleton and love calling this community home. Whether he's helping neighbors, working with city staff, or planning for the future, Dallas brings energy and heart to everything he does.

Jessica Egbert -

As Entrepreneur-in-Residence at OpenTeams Incubator, Jessica serves as Vice President of Business Development at Nomad Data and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Soar (Citizen Portal AI, Workplace AI), where she helps startups scale, expand into new markets, and get things done.

She holds a doctorate in leadership, a master's in educational technology, a bachelor's in psychology, and numerous advanced certificates that do not fit neatly into one biosketch.

When not shaping companies or cities, Jessica can be found traveling with her husband and son, braving the occasional shark encounter, or tracking down the world's best tater tots. Her unofficial epitaph? "She cared, and she got crap done."

Jake Lake -

CITY COUNCIL

Term Begins 2026

I'm proud to call Mapleton home for the past 18 years. I've had the privilege of raising four teenagers in this beautiful, close-knit community. Mapleton isn't just where we live, it's where we've built our lives, formed deep friendships, and committed ourselves to serving others. Service has always been a central part of who I am. I spent eight years in the Utah Army National Guard, where I learned the value of discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Those lessons continue to guide me today in every role I take on. I've been honored to serve Mapleton in a variety of capacities that include Mapleton Economic Development Committee, Planning Commission Member, and currently serve as an Executive Committee Member for Mapleton's 24th of July Pioneer Days Celebration. I believe in thoughtful leadership that preserves Mapleton's unique character while preparing for a strong future. My focus is on keeping Mapleton a place where families thrive, community voices are heard, and smart decisions guide our growth. I love Mapleton and am committed to continuing my service on the City Council if elected with integrity, transparency, and a heart for our people. Let's work together to keep Mapleton a place we're proud to call home.
