Meet the Faces of Your Community

Therin was born and raised in a small town in the oil fields of northwestern New Mexico. His childhood was spent working for his father’s small business, starting out as a small engine mechanic and working his way up to repairing semi-trucks. He served an LDS church mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. While attending Ricks College, he met and married Jenny. The first few years of their marriage they lived and worked in several other states before they ended up here in Utah where Therin began his studies at BYU in Manufacturing Engineering. After graduating, Therin landed a job managing an R&D manufacturing research lab at BYU. Therin loves spending time with his family. His hobbies include many types of outdoor recreation, especially off-roading, rock crawling, camping, and road trips!
Occupation:
Therin works for BYU. His current title is Director of Transportation & Manufacturing Services. He directs the management of several facilities on campus in areas including R&D manufacturing, mechanical design, product development, machining, welding, fabrication, fleet management, purchasing and fuel station operations and petroleum fuel storage. Therin is well known throughout the mountain west for his skills and experience in welding, ranging from specialty welding exotic materials and fabrication of thousands of precision vacuum and pressure rated micro-vessels all the way up to large steel structures used in bridges and commercial buildings and oilfields. He has served as an expert witness for trials in cases involving failed metal structures.

Community Engagement:
Therin has spent all his years living here in Mapleton volunteering in different capacities. He spent 10 years as a licensed firefighter and Advanced-EMT for the Fire Department. He served four years as a Planning Commissioner. In 2015 Therin was instrumental in re-organizing the Mapleton CERT program and served as that organization's coordinator for three years.
Therin also serves on Utah County’s Medical Reserve Corp (MRC), where he volunteers his medical services as an EMT. Most recently helping to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to the public. Therin has also spent many years training and volunteering in local neighborhood groups as a HAM radio operator specializing in emergency response communications.

Jessica Egbert -

Dr. Jessica Egbert is a business growth strategist and civic leader with more than 20 years of experience turning big problems into bigger opportunities. As Entrepreneur-in-Residence at OpenTeams Incubator, Jessica serves as Vice President of Business Development at Nomad Data and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Soar (Citizen Portal AI, Workplace AI), where she helps startups scale, expand into new markets, and get things done.
Jessica also brings her leadership to public service as an elected official on the Mapleton City Council and a board member of the Utah League of Cities and Towns. She is a trustee for Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and co-founded Elected Women of Utah to foster nonpartisan mentorship and problem-solving among women in public office.
She holds a doctorate in leadership, a master's in educational technology, a bachelor's in psychology, and numerous advanced certificates that do not fit neatly into one biosketch.
When not shaping companies or cities, Jessica can be found traveling with her husband and son, braving the occasional shark encounter, or tracking down the world's best tater tots. Her unofficial epitaph? "She cared, and she got crap done."

Leslie Jones -

Leslie has been a Mapleton resident since 2007.

Community Engagement:
Leslie currently serves on the Springville-Mapleton Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors and the Utah Central Association of Realtors' Board of Directors. She has previously served on the Mapleton City Planning Commission. Leslie is also very involved with the Harvest Park HOA as the HOA president, multiple terms as a board member, and overseeing community special projects since 2010.

Kasey Beck -

Kasey Beck grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa and moved to Utah to attend school at Brigham Young University. He and his wife moved to Mapleton in 2016. They have four kids under the age of 10 and have lots of different hobbies including sports, biking, hiking, pickleball, gardening, camping, traveling, and raising chickens and cows. Kasey has also been playing softball in Spanish Fork, which has been a lot of fun.

Kasey has worked in the intellectual property services and software sales industry for over 15 years. He currently specializes in business development and account management to Fortune 500 companies.
Education:
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University
Community Engagement:
Kasey is actively involved in his church congregation and enjoys working with the youth. His children participate in many Mapleton Recreation leagues (baseball, soccer, basketball, street hockey, and flag football).
In 2011, Kasey started a nonprofit organization called Invictus Institute, where he and others tutor kids in Uganda over Skype. In 2020, they merged with Village Book Builders and are now working with schools in Africa, Asia, and South America to build libraries with computer labs and provide long-term mentor programs for students. Kasey believes education is the silver bullet to help kids beat inter-generational poverty. The mentoring helps them improve their English, gain confidence, make international friends, pass national exams, and keeps them in school.

Jake grew up in Southern California, where two hardworking parents instilled in him the values of hard work, leadership, service, and a deep love for community and country—principles that continue to guide his commitment to serving others. After graduating from high school Jake moved to Utah to attend college and further his education. Jake and his wife Jessica were married in 2006 and put down roots in Mapleton and later purchased their first home in Mapleton in 2007. Jake and Jessica have 4 kids who keep them active in many different sports, theater, and being outdoors. Jake loves to coach his kids in sports and throughout the community. Jake has coached Soccer, Football, Basketball, Softball, Baseball, and Volleyball. Jake loves being involved with Mapleton Recreation, Club Soccer and High School athletics.

Jake has a background in Architecture and Construction and loves being able to bring projects to life. Jake currently is Vice President and Operations Manager for a local Commercial Construction Company.

Community Engagement:
Jake is deeply committed to his community, dedicating more than a decade to coaching youth sports through Mapleton City Recreation and Maple Mountain High School, proudly guiding each of his children across a wide range of athletic pursuits. He has shared his leadership, insight, and long-term vision as a member of the Mapleton Planning Commission—first as an alternate commissioner and then for four years as a full-time commissioner.
Alongside his wife, Jessica, Jake served for five years on the Executive Committee for Mapleton’s Pioneer Day Celebration, helping deliver one of Utah’s most memorable community events, featuring a community-filled, week-long celebration capped off by the best fireworks show in the state. Driven by service, leadership, and a passion for bringing people together, Jake thrives on creating experiences that strengthen community and leave a lasting impact.
Jake also proudly served eight years in the Utah Army National Guard as a member of the 141st Military Intelligence Battalion, further reinforcing his lifelong commitment to service and teamwork.

Melanie Bott -

Melanie Bott is a strategic, community-driven leader with experience and passion in economic development, emergency preparedness, governance, and public engagement. She is passionate about smart growth, community resilience, and ensuring Mapleton’s families and businesses thrive while preserving the values and character of the community.
Melanie grew up in the small town of Helper, Utah, in a close-knit community that shaped her deep appreciation for service, connection and local leadership. She was raised near her immigrant grandparents, who came from Italy and Japan to build their lives and raise a family rooted in hard work, faith, and strong values. From an early age, she learned the importance of creating meaningful relationships, showing up for others, and being present in strengthening community ties.
Her commitment to service began in her youth but was solidified in her teens when she started her first job with AmeriCorps National Service and then serving a religious mission. That early experience laid the foundation for a lifetime of community involvement and public service.
Raising her three kids, she teaches by examples, what it means to be active, informed and engaged citizens. Everything she does is guided by a long-term perspective, with future leaders in mind, both her own children and youth throughout the community. Rooted in service, driven by faith, and focused on families is not just her motto; it is how she lives and serves every day.
