Meet Your Mapleton Candidates
Who’s on the Ballot? Meet the Faces of Your Community
Jenny and I are passionate about Mapleton! We've been involved in this community in many capacities. I have served on the Planning Commission (4 years); Director of CERT program (3 years); EMT/firefighter on the fire department; instrumental in developing city's Commercial Design Standards; voting member of ULCT's Legislative Policy Committee where I study State Legislative issues that directly affect cities in Utah. I've attended almost all Planning Commission and City Council meetings for the past 10 years. I've served as a city council member for one term now. Before being elected to the council I have had experience in fiscal budgeting, running a successful business, zoning and land issues, public safety, management, leadership and human resources. I have experience applying my qualifications to leading Mapleton. My voting record highlights protecting property rights, limiting government, all while aggressively limiting growth and inappropriate development. I am a moderate-conservative person who believes in limited government, but where government needs to be involved it should be by the voice of the people! I mention all this merely to illustrate that you won't find a candidate that is more committed to serving this community. I would greatly appreciate your vote!
Dallas Hakes has proudly served as Mayor of Mapleton since 2017, bringing steady leadership, deep community roots, and a results-driven approach to city government. A longtime resident and successful business owner, Dallas ran for office to preserve Mapleton's character while thoughtfully guiding its future. Under his leadership, the city has expanded parks and open space, improved infrastructure, and maintained a strong commitment to public safety.
Dallas believes in collaboration over confrontation. He's built strong relationships with local, regional, and state partners to secure resources and negotiate lasting benefits for the community—including more than 45 acres of new public open space, a 30-acre bike park, and water agreements to protect Mapleton's long-term needs.
Before entering public service, Dallas built and managed companies from the ground up. That experience—combined with his work ethic and ability to bring people together—shapes his approach as mayor: hands-on, strategic, and service-oriented.
He and his wife, Kara are raising their family in Mapleton and love calling this community home. Whether he's helping neighbors, working with city staff, or planning for the future, Dallas brings energy and heart to everything he does.
n 2020 a developer tried building several additional homes that would have negatively altered the makeup of my neighborhood. I became involved in city issues such as zoning, TDRs, etc. and ran for council to be a part of development decision making. We can't stop growth but we can make smart decisions on how/where development happens and ensure neighborhoods are protected from its negative impacts. I've had the privilege of being on council since 2022 and representing residents the way they've requested. The general plan asks for city leaders to focus on single family housing, large lots, preserving open space, etc. This is my guide on how I vote. When a neighborhood could be impacted, I make it a point to knock doors, send texts, make calls to make a decision that's best for Mapleton now and in the future. Public safety is important to me and ensuring our departments have the budget they need to keep our community safe. Every budget season I push to include more funds for building and improving sidewalks that are used by our kids. If elected, I'll continue to be available when an advocate is needed for individual needs and facilitate a solution together.
"Rooted in Service. Driven by Faith. Focused on Families."
Mapleton is growing, and with that growth comes great responsibility and opportunity. we need leaders who listen, lift, and lead—not just during times of crisis, but every day. As a mom, small business owner, and community volunteer, I've spent years working to strengthen the city we all love. I'm running for City Council to build on that foundation—by leading through service, education, and meaningful connection.
With over 27 years of community leadership—including roles as Chamber President & CEO, Planning Commissioner, and Preparedness Chair—I've learned that the strongest communities are built by listening first, then acting with purpose. When we understand the needs of our neighbors, we lead with compassion and make better decisions.
My priorities are clear: public safety (both physical and mental), smart growth that preserves our heritage, support for families and youth, a thriving, small-town economy and a city that delivers efficient services with limited taxation and fiscal restraint. Above all, I will champion transparent leadership and open dialogue.
Let's shape a city that learns, grows, and thrives—together
I have called Mapleton home for nearly 25 years. A husband, father, grandfather, and longtime healthcare leader, Francis brings both heart and experience to everything he does. He's running for city council to keep Mapleton strong, prepared, and connected to the values that make it special.
I'm proud to call Mapleton home for the past 18 years. I've had the privilege of raising four teenagers in this beautiful, close-knit community. Mapleton isn't just where we live, it's where we've built our lives, formed deep friendships, and committed ourselves to serving others. Service has always been a central part of who I am. I spent eight years in the Utah Army National Guard, where I learned the value of discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Those lessons continue to guide me today in every role I take on. I've been honored to serve Mapleton in a variety of capacities that include Mapleton Economic Development Committee, Planning Commission Member, and currently serve as an Executive Committee Member for Mapleton's 24th of July Pioneer Days Celebration. I believe in thoughtful leadership that preserves Mapleton's unique character while preparing for a strong future. My focus is on keeping Mapleton a place where families thrive, community voices are heard, and smart decisions guide our growth. I love Mapleton and am committed to continuing my service on the City Council if elected with integrity, transparency, and a heart for our people. Let's work together to keep Mapleton a place we're proud to call home.
